Early childhood education or preschool education is a term that refers to education intended for children age 5 and under. Preschool education is the most important education for children even though many people think otherwise. This is why preschool education should be seriously considered.
Child development, although it uniquely focuses on childhood, has lots of yawning gaps as a subject. It is a near-impossible task to separate out what factors may be universal and apply to all children and what factors are local and particular, and then to find foolproof methods of investigating them. It is difficult to reconcile subjectivity and objectivity, what you feel with what you observe in others. Keep in mind the question of why and how children development is relevant to working with children. Discussion about the methodologies and explanatory frameworks used to try to understand young children crop up in our everyday life.
The aim of this early childhood education website is to present some online resources that may be useful to exploring different ways of investigating, writing about and understanding early childhood. It questions simple assumptions about early childhood as “the foundation” for later life. It does not try to minimize the importance of early childhood, or the insights that have been gained in the field of child development. But it does try to step back and take a broad view of many of the assertions and assumptions about what children are and what they can do. There is an extraordinary wealth of material to draw upon, as some of the examples on this site suggest.
Basically, early childhood education (ECE) is one important part in children’s lives because it is the first children’s basic education experience acquired and the basis for the socialization of children and life experiences with others outside the family.
